Moiré magnets

Abstract

This work introduces a general framework to study moiré structures of two-dimensional Van der Waals magnets using continuum field theory. In particular, we analyze twisted bilayers of Néel antiferromagnets as well as ferromagnets on the honeycomb lattice. A rich phase diagram with noncollinear twisted phases is obtained, and spin waves are further calculated. Given the recent experimental realization of noncollinear phases in moiré structures made of Van der Waals ferromagnets, we anticipate the results and formalism to lead to a broad range of applications to both fundamental research and experiments.
