Time-Energy Entangled Photon Pairs from an AlGaAsOI Microring Resonator
Abstract
Improvements to the fabrication process of AlGaAs on silica photonic devices has allowed for ultra-low loss waveguides and high quality factor microring resonators to be fabricated. Leveraging these improvements, we demonstrate a 1000-fold improvement (compared to other material platforms) in the brightness of time-energy entangled photon pairs generated via spontaneous four wave mixing in the resonator. This improvement reduces the overall pump power required for a specific generation rate of entangled photons, reducing the amount of filtering required to separate the entangled photons from the pump photons and allowing for higher photon rates to be achieved.
